Broken House Records presents MUSIATA, a modern griot from St. Louis.
MUSIATA isn’t a conventional musician so much as a storyteller with a microphone. The work moves through music, story, history and visual world-building, and Southern Africa, Manchester and St. Louis all leave their fingerprints on it. The songs fold in Southern African memory, St. Louis, America as spectacle and the mask, worn as both performance and witness. MUSIATA writes, composes and produces the music, with a historian’s appetite, an unreasonable number of questions and a sense of humour that doesn’t always behave.
MUSIATA joined the Broken House Records catalogue in February 2026 with the single First Blue Sky. A run of singles followed through the year, among them Room to Breathe, Art of Living, Hold On, Run Baby Run (Carnival), Memory Bliss and Earthstand. In March came Quiet Is a Lie, a 17-track album.
Next is The Griot, out 13 November 2026: sixteen illustrated song-chapters that make up one record. The focus track is Famous Rivers.
